Gonepterix rhamni

Also known as Brimstone butterfly. It is believed that the word “butterfly” comes from “butter-coloured fly” which is assigned to the colour of the male of Gonepterix rhamni. This butterfly has one of the longest life cycle among other butterflies. It can live from 10 to 12 months, however, majority of its life it spends in hibernation (7 months). They became active in April, when they lay eggs. Their leaf-like wings perfectly match stalks of the plants, so they can remain safe while sleeping.
