THE SECOND SCHOOL CAMP DEDICATED TO THE WORLD OF VOLUNTEERING
18 teenagers from Tramonti partecipated in the second edition of the project “Volontariato ed Adolescenti” organized by ACARBIO, The UNESCO Club of Amalfi and Pubblica Assistenza I Colibrì, promoted by the Voluntary Service Center of the province of Salerno Sodalis.
Students from the Istituto Comprensivo Giovanni Pascoli in Tramonti spent 4 days (and three nights in the tents!), from June 13th to June 16th in, immersed in the greenery of the Amalfi Coast, headquarters of the ACARBIO association. They got to set up the tents, the same ones that are used during times of emergency, and prepare podcasts for the web radio in which they told about their camping experiences. Kids participated also in different activities such as first aid training or fire-fighting drills and learned what to do in case of a natural disaster. Through the games and interactive shows kids learned more about international organizations like UNESCO, understood why the territory in which they live is considered a World Heritage site and why it needs to be protected and defended. There were also many hikes with lectures about protection of the environment.
Along with the entomologists students participated in the “insect hunt” and then became “little archaeologists” by exploring the ancient Roman rustic Villa of Tramonti. Participants of the school camp built also a model of the solar system in the garden and laughed a lot during the clown therapy laboratory.
It was an intense camping experience, a training course and an opportunity to learn more about activities of different associations. Volunteering is in fact the main theme of this school camp dedicated to teenagers. Such experience can have a significant influence on their future choices. The aim is to engage young people in training and educational activities, help them understand the importance of devoting some of their time to the community and connecting with locals.
This is also a great way to bring parents closer to the world of volunteering and to show them its importance for the local territory.
